The bigler
My sailors if you’ll listen
I will sing a song for you
It’s all about the Bigler,
and of all her jolly crew.
In Milwaukee last October,
I chanced to get a sight,
Of the schooner called the Bigler,
Belonging to Detroit.
Watch her! Catch her!
You jump on her juber ju
Give her the sail and let her go
The sailors pull her through.
You ought to see us hauling
As the winds are blowing free
On our passage down to Buffalo
From Milwaukee
The wind chopped from the southwest
It blew both fresh and strong.
But slowly through Lake Michigan
The Bigler she rolled on.
And far beyond her foaming bow
The dashing waves did fling
With every stich of canvas set
Her course was wing and wing
Watch her! Catch her!
You jump on her juber ju
Give her the sail and let her go
The sailors pull her through.
You ought to see us hauling
As the winds are blowing free
On our passage down to Buffalo
From Milwaukee
From Manitou to Beaver
We steered her full and by.
Past Skillagalee and Wobble-shanks
Through the straights of Mackinac.
Then out into Lake Huron,
And on to Thunder Bay
When the wind it finally shifted
We were going home to stay.
Watch her! Catch her!
You jump on her juber ju
Give her the sail and let her go
The sailors pull her through.
You ought to see us hauling
